Get Your Marketing Degree Recognized in Spain
Advertising and Marketing are NOT regulated professions in Spain: your degree is recognized via the declaration of equivalency (equivalencia) to bachelor's level, with an official fee of €166.50. We handle everything for €176, from the apostille to the resolution.
What legally applies to your degree
Marketing, Advertising, Mercadotecnia or Public Relations: non-regulated programmes whose recognition in Spain is the declaration of equivalency to bachelor's level in Social and Legal Sciences. The procedure belongs to the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and runs entirely online.
In agencies and marketing departments nobody will ask for a recognized degree: the industry runs on results and portfolio. The equivalency matters when the goal is institutional — public-sector communication and promotion exams, official university master's programmes, or formally certifying your bachelor's in residence and training-based immigration procedures. That is what this case file exists for.

Which documents your file requires
The Document Agent checks every piece against the requirements of the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities before filing — a file that goes in right the first time is the best defense against extra months of corrections.
- Proof of identity and nationality (passport or Spanish NIE)
- Official degree certificate, legalized with the Apostille of The Hague (waived for EU/EEA/Switzerland)
- Academic transcript showing programme length, courses taken and workload or credits, stamped and signed by your university
- Sworn translation (traducción jurada) into Spanish of the degree and the transcript
- Proof of payment of the 790-107 fee
Official fee: €166.50 (form 790-107)
The procedure fee is €166.50, code 107, paid with form 790-107. It is the same for both homologación (official recognition) and the declaration of equivalency. Beware: the 790-079 fee quoted on many websites applies to NON-university studies — paying it by mistake freezes your case.
If you pay from outside Spain, the transfer goes to the Ministry's account (IBAN ES16 9000 0001 2002 5310 8022, BIC ESPBESMMXXX) and bank charges are on you: if less than €166.50 arrives, the case stalls. We verify the exact amount before filing.
The fee is non-refundable if the application is rejected, lapses or is denied — one more reason to file the case right the first time.

Working in marketing and advertising in Spain: agencies, brands and pay
Marketing is one of the sectors with the highest turnover and the most permanently open vacancies in Spain. Agencies — creative, media and performance boutiques — remain the entry school, with demanding hours and modest starting salaries. Brands and ecommerce hire acquisition, CRM, content and analytics profiles directly, with better conditions and more stability. And there are two less visible but very active pools: industrial and tech B2B marketing, short of people who understand long sales cycles, and growth teams at digital product companies.
What defines this market is that the specialism outranks the degree: paid media, SEO, automation, analytics and data, or brand and content are almost separate careers. Profiles able to measure — attribution, data models, BI tools — are the scarcest and best paid, and no degree fixes that scarcity.
In figures, the public frame is the INE (Annual Structure of Earnings Survey 2024): €29,540.26 average annual earnings and a €24,497.17 median across employees, with the 2026 minimum wage (€1,221 a month over fourteen payments) as the legal floor; the reference agreement in agencies is usually the national advertising companies agreement, while in-house roles follow the company's sector agreement. With the usual caveat: these are indicative public figures, not a forecast of what you will earn.
Market figures on this page are indicative and come from public sources cited in the text. They are not an offer, a guarantee or an earnings forecast. Booka manages credential recognition and professional registration — we are not a recruitment agency.
Which Spanish degree does your marketing or advertising degree correspond to?
The equivalency is declared at bachelor's level in the Social and Legal Sciences field. Spain has two distinct reference degrees and it is worth knowing which is closer to your curriculum: the Bachelor's in Marketing and Market Research, with quantitative, consumer behaviour and sales management content, and the Bachelor's in Advertising and Public Relations, oriented towards creativity, communication strategy and media.
Many Latin American Mercadotecnia or Mercadeo degrees blend both worlds. That does not complicate the case — the decision covers level and field, not title — but it is worth being clear about when presenting your profile to a university or an exam board: identifying your closest Spanish equivalent lets you explain your training in one sentence.
Mercadeo, Mercadotecnia, Publicidad: what it is called in your country
In Colombia and Venezuela the usual name is Mercadeo, often as Business Administration with a marketing specialization. Mexico is characterized by the Licenciatura en Mercadotecnia, with a cédula profesional. Peru has Marketing and Administración y Marketing. Argentina uses Licenciatura en Comercialización — the local name for marketing — and Licenciatura en Publicidad, with the certificado analítico.
That variety of names is exactly what makes reliable information hard to find. The procedure, by contrast, is identical for all of them: same €166.50 fee, same bachelor's-level decision.
Scope of the equivalency in marketing: what it covers and what it does not
Advertising and marketing are not regulated professions, so there is no curriculum comparison, no aptitude test and no additional coursework. The case is decided on level and workload.
With the decision you CAN compete for public exams and employment pools with a promotion, communications or institutional outreach profile; access official master's programmes in digital marketing, communications or commercial management; and certify bachelor's level in immigration procedures, including the training-based residence routes.
What you do NOT obtain is any professional licence: marketing practice is free in Spain, there is no professional association and no authority issues advertiser licences. Nor does it replace platform certifications — those of the major advertising and analytics ecosystems — which are what an employer actually looks at when hiring a performance profile. The equivalency buys institutional access; the private market still looks at results.
After the equivalency: official master's, public exams and training-based residence
The most frequent use our marketing clients make of the decision is the official master's: it is a common admission requirement for non-EU candidates and, beyond the training itself, it resolves study-stay status and the later switch to a work and residence permit.
The second use is the administration: economic promotion, tourism, communications and investment attraction technician posts at city councils, boards and regional agencies, paid by subgroup according to the annual State Budget Act. The third, less obvious, is the immigration route itself: certifying a recognized university qualification counts in several Spanish residence pathways, and having the decision before starting them avoids months of delay.

Frequently asked questions
Does the equivalency help with immigration procedures?
Certifying a recognized university degree counts in several Spanish immigration routes (training-based arraigo, upgrades to skilled-work residence). The declaration of equivalency is the official way to make your foreign degree count as a Spanish university qualification for those purposes.
I studied Mercadotecnia in Mexico — is it the same procedure?
Yes. With your degree apostilled by the SEP or competent authority, your full transcript and sworn translations where applicable, the equivalency case is identical: same procedure, same €166.50 fee, same bachelor's-level decision.
How much does a marketing professional earn in Spain?
The available public frame is the INE (Annual Structure of Earnings Survey 2024): €29,540.26 average annual earnings and a €24,497.17 median across employees, with the 2026 minimum wage at €1,221 a month over fourteen payments. Within the sector, agencies and brands pay different bands for the same role, and analytics and paid media profiles usually sit above content ones. These are indicative public figures, not an individual forecast.
Do I need recognition to work at an agency?
No. The sector hires on demonstrable experience, results and practical tests. The equivalency becomes relevant for an official master's, a public exam or an immigration procedure — three doors a portfolio does not open.
Is the equivalency useful for training-based residence?
Certifying a recognized university qualification counts in several Spanish immigration pathways, and the declaration of equivalency is the official way for your foreign degree to count as a university qualification for those purposes. The specific requirements are set by immigration rules and are worth checking with a specialist for your case.
How long does the procedure take in Spain?
The legal deadline for a decision is 6 months from the moment the file is complete (Royal Decree 889/2022). Applicants' experience suggests longer real timelines depending on caseload; the Ministry publishes no official averages. A well-prepared file with no requests for corrections is the best way to avoid extra months.
Do I need the Apostille of The Hague and a sworn translation?
Yes, with limited exceptions. Your degree must be legalized with the Apostille of The Hague from your home country (EU, EEA and Swiss citizens are exempt), and both the degree and the academic transcript require a sworn translation (traducción jurada) into Spanish. We coordinate both as part of the service.
Can I start the process from my home country, without being in Spain?
Yes. The procedure runs entirely online through the Ministry's electronic portal, and the fee can be paid by international transfer. You never need to be in Spain or attend any in-person appointment.
What exactly does Booka do, and what do I do?
You hand us your documents; we do the rest: we verify the file at source with our Verifier Agent, coordinate the apostille and sworn translation, file the online application, pay the fee and track the case through to resolution, answering any request from the Ministry.
