Get Your Business Degree Recognized in Spain
Business Administration and Accounting are NOT regulated professions in Spain: the official recognition of your degree is the declaration of equivalency (equivalencia) to bachelor's level, not homologación. We handle the complete case for €176, with the €166.50 official fee and a 100% online file.
What legally applies to your degree
Business Administration, Public Accounting, Business Management: none is a regulated profession in Spain, so the official route is the equivalency to bachelor's level (Social and Legal Sciences). One important nuance for accountants: statutory auditing IS separately regulated — joining the ROAC register has its own requirements, and the degree equivalency is the first of them.
To work in the private sector — corporate finance, internal accounting, controlling, consulting — no one will ask for degree recognition. The equivalency matters for public-sector exams (tax authority, auditors-comptroller, administration), access to official master's programmes, and as the basis for later professional accreditations such as ROAC access if you come from auditing. It is the procedure that turns your degree into a Spanish bachelor's for administrative purposes.

Which documents your file requires
The Document Agent checks every piece against the requirements of the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities before filing — a file that goes in right the first time is the best defense against extra months of corrections.
- Proof of identity and nationality (passport or Spanish NIE)
- Official degree certificate, legalized with the Apostille of The Hague (waived for EU/EEA/Switzerland)
- Academic transcript showing programme length, courses taken and workload or credits, stamped and signed by your university
- Sworn translation (traducción jurada) into Spanish of the degree and the transcript
- Proof of payment of the 790-107 fee
Official fee: €166.50 (form 790-107)
The procedure fee is €166.50, code 107, paid with form 790-107. It is the same for both homologación (official recognition) and the declaration of equivalency. Beware: the 790-079 fee quoted on many websites applies to NON-university studies — paying it by mistake freezes your case.
If you pay from outside Spain, the transfer goes to the Ministry's account (IBAN ES16 9000 0001 2002 5310 8022, BIC ESPBESMMXXX) and bank charges are on you: if less than €166.50 arrives, the case stalls. We verify the exact amount before filing.
The fee is non-refundable if the application is rejected, lapses or is denied — one more reason to file the case right the first time.

Working in administration and accounting in Spain: sectors, employers and salaries
This is the profile with the highest volume of vacancies on this site, simply because every company needs administration and accounting. Employment splits between advisory and bookkeeping firms — the fastest way in for a foreign degree, because they hire on practical knowledge and volume — corporate finance and administration departments, the Big Four and audit and transaction services consultancies, and the public sector, where comptrollers, financial management and budget control are corps with recurring vacancies.
Two caveats matter for newcomers. First: Spanish accounting runs on the General Accounting Plan (PGC) with its own tax obligations (VAT, personal income tax withholdings, corporate tax, quarterly filings), so employers weigh both your training and your ability to adapt to that framework; many of our clients take a short Spanish tax course and get in without trouble. Second: the sector is mid-digitalization — e-invoicing, ERP, automated closings — and profiles combining accounting with data and systems are the scarcest.
On pay, the public reference is the INE Annual Structure of Earnings Survey (2024): €29,540.26 average annual earnings and a €24,497.17 median across employees, with the 2026 minimum wage at €1,221 a month over fourteen payments as the legal floor. Actual bands are set by your province's offices-and-practices agreement or the company's own, and progression is sharply stepped: accounting clerk, accountant, controller and finance director carry clear jumps. In audit, the career is tightly structured by years in the firm.

Which Spanish degree does your business or accounting degree correspond to?
The equivalency is declared at bachelor's level in the Social and Legal Sciences field. The Spanish reference degrees are the Bachelor's in Business Administration and Management (the well-known ADE), the Bachelor's in Finance and Accounting, and the Accounting and Finance degrees offered by several universities.
It helps to know that Spain has no degree called Contaduría Pública: accounting is studied within ADE or the specific finance and accounting degree, and the figure of the auditor is not acquired with the degree but through later registration in an official register. That structural difference explains why so many accountants arrive looking to “homologate accountancy” and find their case is a level equivalency.
Contaduría Pública, ADE, business administration: what it is called at home
In Colombia the majority title is Contador Público, alongside Administración de Empresas. Peru has Contabilidad and Administración de Empresas. Mexico typically issues Licenciatura en Contaduría Pública, Licenciatura en Contaduría or Licenciatura en Administración, with a cédula profesional. Venezuela issues Licenciado en Contaduría Pública and Licenciado en Administración. Argentina has Contador Público and Licenciatura en Administración, with the certificado analítico as the academic document.
All are processed identically and with the same fee: what is declared is bachelor's level, not the specific title of origin.
The real scope of the equivalency for accountants and business graduates
With no regulated profession behind it there is no aptitude test: nobody will examine you and there are no training gaps to make up. But the scope has a limit worth understanding before you pay.
The equivalency DOES let you sit exams for the economic and financial corps of the State and the regions, access official master's programmes and doctoral study, certify bachelor's level for immigration and public scoring criteria, and serve as the academic starting requirement of the statutory audit route.
The equivalency does NOT make you a chartered accountant in the Latin American sense — accounting in Spain is not a colegio-based profession with reserved activity — nor does it qualify you to sign audits, which is reserved to those registered with the ROAC. It also does not make you an accredited tax adviser: that activity is free in Spain, though sector associations issue their own credentials. In short: the equivalency opens the public and academic doors, while the private market hires you on knowledge of the Spanish framework.
After the equivalency: the ROAC, public exams and tax specialization
If you come from audit, the Spanish route runs through the Official Register of Auditors (ROAC), governed by the Audit Act and managed by the Accounting and Audit Institute. Registration requires a university qualification, specific theoretical training, several years of supervised practice at a firm, and passing the professional aptitude exam. The equivalency covers the first of those requirements — without it you cannot even evidence it.
If your goal is the public sector, your natural field is the tax, comptroller and financial management corps of the regions and local authorities, paid according to the annual State Budget Act by subgroup. And if you prefer the private sector, the most profitable complement is not another long degree but specific training in Spanish taxation and the General Accounting Plan.

Frequently asked questions
I am a certified public accountant — can I practice auditing in Spain with the equivalency?
The equivalency recognizes your bachelor's-level education, which is the baseline requirement. Statutory auditing in Spain additionally requires enrolment in the ROAC (Official Register of Auditors), with its own training, practice and exam. The equivalency is the entry door to that path, not the whole path.
Does the equivalency qualify me for Spanish public-sector exams?
Yes — that is precisely one of its legal effects: taking part in public employment selection processes that require a university degree. With the bachelor's equivalency you can sit group-A competitive exams requiring a bachelor's degree, including the economic-financial ones.
How much does an accountant earn in Spain?
The published general frame is the INE (Annual Structure of Earnings Survey 2024): €29,540.26 average annual earnings and a €24,497.17 median across employees, with the 2026 minimum wage (€1,221 a month over fourteen payments) as the legal floor. Your actual band is set by your province's offices-and-practices agreement or the company's own, and moving from accounting clerk to controller or finance director carries very clear jumps.
Can I work as an accountant in Spain without recognition?
Yes. Accounting is not a regulated profession in Spain and advisory firms and finance departments hire on experience and knowledge of the General Accounting Plan and Spanish taxation. The equivalency is needed when you move into the public sphere or want to start the audit route towards the ROAC.
How long until I can sign audits in Spain?
Quite a while, and it is worth knowing upfront: beyond the recognized qualification, ROAC access requires specific theoretical training, several years of supervised practice under a registered auditor, and passing the professional aptitude exam. It is a multi-year route. The equivalency resolves the qualification requirement, which is first on the list.
How long does the procedure take in Spain?
The legal deadline for a decision is 6 months from the moment the file is complete (Royal Decree 889/2022). Applicants' experience suggests longer real timelines depending on caseload; the Ministry publishes no official averages. A well-prepared file with no requests for corrections is the best way to avoid extra months.
Do I need the Apostille of The Hague and a sworn translation?
Yes, with limited exceptions. Your degree must be legalized with the Apostille of The Hague from your home country (EU, EEA and Swiss citizens are exempt), and both the degree and the academic transcript require a sworn translation (traducción jurada) into Spanish. We coordinate both as part of the service.
Can I start the process from my home country, without being in Spain?
Yes. The procedure runs entirely online through the Ministry's electronic portal, and the fee can be paid by international transfer. You never need to be in Spain or attend any in-person appointment.
