And here is what almost nobody tells you: public-sector tech employment — information systems corps of the State, the regions, universities and public healthcare — keeps advertising posts, and there the recognized degree is not optional. That is where the equivalency stops being a piece of paper and becomes the key.

Which Spanish degree does Systems Engineering correspond to?
The declaration of equivalency does not assign you a specific Spanish degree: it declares an academic level — bachelor's or master's — within a field of knowledge. For computing the field is Engineering and Architecture, and the Spanish comparison degrees are the Bachelor's in Computer Engineering, the Bachelor's in Software Engineering and the Bachelor's in Computer Systems Engineering, with the Master's in Computer Engineering for long-cycle programmes.
That the decision covers level and field rather than a title has a very practical upside: it works equally for a public-sector exam, for an official master's in cybersecurity, or for an immigration procedure. One decision, valid throughout Spain, with no expiry date.
Systems Engineering, Informatics, Computing: what it is called in your country
In Colombia the dominant title is Ingeniería de Sistemas, followed by Ingeniería de Sistemas y Computación. In Peru, Ingeniería de Sistemas coexists with Ingeniería Informática y de Sistemas. In Mexico the norm is Ingeniería en Sistemas Computacionales (ISC), Licenciatura en Informática or Ingeniería en Tecnologías de la Información, with a cédula profesional issued by the SEP. Venezuela issues Ingeniero en Informática or Ingeniero de Sistemas, and Argentina Licenciatura en Sistemas, Licenciatura en Informática or Ingeniería en Informática.
None of these names changes the procedure or the fee: the case is identical and the decision is issued at academic level, not against the label on your diploma.
What the equivalency is good for in tech — and what it is not
It is worth being blunt about scope, because plenty of websites oversell it. The equivalency DOES let you: sit public-sector exams and join public employment pools that require a university degree; access official master's programmes and doctoral study at Spanish universities; certify bachelor's level in immigration and formal corporate processes; and score points in public procurement and merit-based competitions.
The equivalency does NOT: qualify you for any reserved profession (there is none in computing in Spain); give you a Spanish degree you can present as issued by a particular university; or replace technical or methodology certifications. Nor does it validate individual subjects: if your goal is to complete a Spanish bachelor's, that is a different procedure requested from the university, not the Ministry.
As it is not a regulated profession, there are no training gaps to make up and no aptitude test: the case is decided on level and workload, and the real risk is documentary rather than academic — incomplete transcripts, missing contact hours or badly issued apostilles.
After the equivalency: IT public-sector exams and official master's programmes
The most profitable route after the decision is public-sector tech employment. With bachelor's level declared you can compete for the systems and IT management corps of the central administration, their regional equivalents, and posts at universities, hospitals and city councils, whose pay is published annually in the State Budget Act by subgroup (A2 for bachelor's, A1 where a master's is required).
The second door is academic: official master's programmes in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence or software engineering, which usually require a recognized degree from non-EU candidates and are themselves the natural route towards subgroup A1 and doctoral study. There is no compulsory professional association: computing colegios exist, but membership is voluntary and does not condition your practice.
